Joao Fonseca won the second title of his young career last Sunday, ending his run at the Basel ATP 500 in the best possible way and proving that he has all the skills of a predestined once again. The current world number 28 had already triumphed on the red clay in Buenos Aires early this year, before his level suffered a normal downturn caused by his young age and the enormous expectations on his shoulders.
The Brazilian star found the best sensations in Switzerland and entered the Top 30 of the ATP rankings for the first time, with the goal he himself declared to be seeded at the next Australian Open which will take place at Melbourne Park in 2026.
Most experts and insiders are convinced that the South American ace has the talent to reach the same level as Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, who are the two current leaders of the men's tour and look set to remain at the top of the rankings for the next few years.

Fonseca is growing well
Fonseca will have to grow further from all points of view to be a top player, but he is undoubtedly going in the right direction and 2026 will be a very important year for his maturation on and off the pitch.
Among Joao's admirers, there is also former world number 1 Jimmy Connors. On the latest edition of his famous podcast, the American legend analyzed the Brazilian player's potential in detail: There is a time when you dont care what time of year it is. Its just a matter of being able to get the win for the confidence. We talk about there being nothing more important in sports, especially in an individual sport, than winning. That breeds confidence.
So if he can continue that, and that feeling into theAustralian Open. He is young, he is big, he is strong. He has got the game and the size. The more you guys talked about him, the more I have watched him it has given me somebody extra to watch.
