Eva Lys kicked off her Hong Kong debut in style after annihilating qualifier Kristiana Sidorova 6-0 6-3 in just over an hour of play to reach the round-of-16.

Over the weekend, Sidorova - who is enjoying a career-high ranking of No. 527 in the world - won two qualifying matches to reach her first WTA main-level main draw.

But against Lys, the rising Russian tennis player didn't stand much of a chance as the 50th-ranked German stormed past the opening set and completed a bagel.

After easily winning the first set, Lys lost her focus a bit and got broken in the first game of the second set. However, the German tennis player quickly regained her focus as she took Sidorova's serve in the second and eighth games to overturn the deficit and still very routinely get the job done in straight sets.

Who is Lys' next rival in Hong Kong?

In the Hong Kong round-of-16, the German will play against the winner of the match between No. 2 seed Leylah Fernandez and Wang Xinyu.

Meanwhile, the 23-year-old also bounced back nicely from losing 1-6 1-6 to Victoria Mboko in the Tokyo round-of-16 last week. After that match, she was subjected to some disgusting verbal abuse.

Unfortunately, it wasn't the only time that Lys was targeted by angry bettors this month.

Hopefully, the 50th-ranked German avoids something similar this week.
