Bartoli pays tribute to Monfils
One of the main criticisms that have been leveled against Monfils is certainly that of not having won even a 'big title', despite having had a very long career participating in all the major tournaments a myriad of times.
It's no secret that the presence of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic in their 'prime' didn't help him achieve certain goals, but Gael never experienced this as a reason for regret.
Interviewed by 'We Love Tennis' shortly before the Paris Masters 1000, former Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli paid tribute to 'La Monf': "He played in one of the most difficult eras in the history of tennis, where there were so many enormously talented players. The truth is that he gave his best during his professional career and was also unlucky in some moments. From my point of view, it is not appropriate to point out that he has not won certain tournaments, but it would be more correct to point out that he has had an incredible longevity while maintaining the right motivation for an impressive amount of time."
