Holger Rune is going through the worst moment of his young career, having suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon during the Stockholm ATP 250 semi-final against Ugo Humbert last week. The young Danish ace had immediately understood that it was a very serious injury, which was confirmed by the official diagnosis and will force him to stay away from the professional tour for several months.
The former world number 4 - who was trying to qualify for the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin although he had little chance - has already undergone surgery and is trying to have a positive attitude, but it is no secret that he will have to miss most of the 2026 season and will be called upon to face a very demanding rehabilitation from all points of view.
Rune must work on himself
Rune will need the help of his team and his family to return to the field stronger than before, being aware that he is still very young and has time to fully express his enormous talent. He has received many messages of support from his colleagues in recent days and has reassured fans about his state of mind, having made it clear that he will give his best right away to make his rehabilitation as effective as possible.

Through his social profiles, his former coach Patrick Mouratoglou advised Holger to work a lot on himself during this period: "This is a very serious injury, one of the most serious ever that an athlete can suffer, but Rune must do everything he can to turn this incident into something positive. We don't know how long he will have to be out, but his stop will probably last about a year."
Mouratoglou also added: "The most interesting things often happen at the worst times. If he can reflect and work on some things, he can make a huge change. A player's mentality often changes when he has to face such a tough time, which is why I consider it an excellent opportunity to grow."
