Holger Rune has suffered a very hard blow to his career, having suffered a very serious injury to his Achilles tendon during the semifinal of the Stockholm ATP 250 against the French ace Ugo Humbert. The young Danish star wants to take advantage of the last part of this season to achieve good results and regain confidence in view of 2026, which should have represented the right year for his definitive consecration at the highest level.
However, this injury is so serious that it risks compromising next year as well. He will have to undergo surgery in the near future and although his mother Aneke has predicted her son will be back in action within 6 months the most likely scenario is that the former world number 4 will have to stay off the tour for a period ranging between 9 and 12 months.
The Achilles tendon injury is considered by experts to be one of the most serious ever for an athlete and Rune did not deserve such bad luck at this stage of his career, which is why he will need the support of all the people who love him to come back stronger than before.

The 2026 season is compromised
Despite having struggled more than expected in the last two seasons and moving away from the top positions of the ATP rankings, Rune is still considered as one of the most promising players in the future and has some time to reach the level of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.
His 2025 had been marked by mixed results before the aforementioned injury, with only one title won on the red clay of Barcelona ATP 500 in early spring. He had unleashed one of the best performances of his career against Alcaraz in the final, showing that he had the talent necessary to become a factor even in the most important tournaments. Holger also reached the final at the Indian Wells Masters 1000, but had to surrender to a deluxe version of Jack Draper that was unstoppable in California.
