AEW has a lot of creative plans in motion, but theyre not going to stick with all of them. The Acclaimed had a good run before splitting up, but that changed recently after the two went in their own directions. A brief reunion may be great for fans, but its not what AEW had in mind.
During a Q&A on Fighful Select, Sean Ross Sapp addressed the reunion of The Acclaimed. Although fans were happy to see this happen, there were other things in the works. He confirmed that bringing Max Caster and Anthony Bowens back together was not part of AEWs original creative direction.
A fan asked whether reuniting The Acclaimed was the plan all along. Sapp then explained that it was Max Casters babyface momentum that caused AEW to change course of direction for Platinum Max.
Apparently, AEW originally intended to push The Acclaimed as solo acts. Max Casters unexpected crowd support as a babyface altered that direction. This also goes to show that Tony Khan is listening to his fans.
Billy Gunn was removed from the act as part of this shift, but he was not an original member of the tandem in the first place. It seems that he has moved on, but The Acclaimed have a new lease on life as a team.
