Vince McMahon made a lot of interesting calls about WWEs creative direction in the years that he led the company. That saw DDP have a controversial debut, but it could have been a worse time for Steve Austin.
In 2001, Diamond Dallas Page made his WWE debut in a storyline where he played a stalker targeting The Undertakers wife, Sara. Fans were confused by the direction, and the angle didnt give DDP the strong start many thought he deserved after his time in WCW.
During an appearance on the Ariel Helwani Show, DDP went into that storyline where he stalked The Undertakers wife.
DDP went on to discuss how he had a conversation with The Undertaker recently, where the subject about that stalking angle came up. Apparently, some fans thought that Taker was trying to ruin DDPs career. DDP told Taker that theyre good, because this is obviously water under the bridge. In the end, it taught DDP that you should never be afraid to walk away from the table if you have something you want.
DDP said that, looking back, he should have told Vince McMahon no. He should have asked Vince if hes seen his wife, and that would give no reason for DDP to go after Takers. However, thats not how it went down.
When asked whether this idea about stalking The Undertakers wife came from Vince McMahon, DDP had a very interesting thing to say about it. Not only was it not DDPs idea, but it was also floated to another WWE Hall of Famer first.
We will never know what it would have been like to live in a world where WWE produced an angle where Stone Cold Steve Austin stalked The Undertakers wife. This angle wasnt one the Texas Rattlesnake was down to do, but DDP couldnt say no to it at the time.
