Coco Gauff may have won Wuhan but she also topped the 400-double fault mark in 2025, which makes her the first player in the Open Era with back-to-back seasons with over 400 double faults served on the main level.
Last year, the American tennis star by far led the WTA Tour in the double-fault category after blasting 430 of them. This year, the world No. 3 is once again leading the women's game in that specific category as she has already hit 405 double faults in 2025.
While Gauff's serving is not the best, she still won the WTA 1000 tournament in Wuhan without a dropped set. In the final, the 21-year-old hit eight double faults and lost her serve four times. However, she still got the job done in two sets against Jessica Pegula 6-4 7-5.
Gauff says she 'has a solution' for her serving woes
Gavin MacMillan, the biomechanics expert who famously fixed Aryna Sabalenka's major serving woes in 2022, has been a part of Gauff's team for the past month and a half. Since then, the reigning French Open champion has made changes to her serving technique - and although her serve is still not perfect - she is improving.

After winning Wuhan, the 21-year-old claimed that MacMillan had exactly what she needed to solve her serving issues.
"Obviously, it was a big hole in my game, the serve, and it still can get better. But I definitely think its been a big improvement since Cincinnati and New York to now. Its just about trusting the process. Before, I was serving technically wrong and I felt like I didnt have a solution with it," Gauff told WTA Media after Wuhan.
"Now I have a solution, and its continuing to trust that when the moments get tight. In a general sense, I changed the way I toss the ball and my motion on the serve. I dont want to get too specific, but if you look at the before and after, Im turning a little bit more on my toss."
