Karolina Muchova is back on winning terms after having an unfortunate to her Wuhan campaign as the world No. 20 ousted 2023 Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova 6-4 6-3 in her opening match at the WTA 500 tournament in Ningbo.

In an all-Czech battle, Muchova made the first move and claimed the opening break of the match in the third game. While leading 5-3, the 2023 French Open finalist had a set point on Vondrousova's serve but failed to convert. However, she remained unfazed and routinely closed out the set on her serve in the following game.

After taking the first set, Muchova also went 2-0 up early in the second set. Down by a set and a break, Vondrousova finally showed some signs of life and managed to get her first break of the match and tie the score to two games apiece. But, once again, the world No. 20 didn't panic as she registered breaks in the fifth and ninth games to complete the job in two sets.

Muchova bounces back from an unfortunate Wuhan ending

Before coming to Ningbo, the Czech played at the WTA 1000 tournament in Wuhan, where she defeated Marta Kostyuk in the first round. Then, the 29-year-old felt unwell during her second-round match against Magdalena Frech and retired.

Hopefully, she stays healthy and doesn't experience the same fate in Ningbo.
