Coco Gauff claimed she wasn't even aware of her stunning hard-court finals record after beating Jessica Pegula in the Wuhan title match.

Playing in her maiden final at the WTA 1000 tournament in Wuhan, Gauff handled the business by beating fellow compatriot Pegula 6-4 7-5. For the world No. 3, it was her ninth hard-court final on the main level. And she has won all of those matches, posting a perfect 9-of-9 record.

So far in her career, Gauff has lost only one final - it came on the clay courts of the French Open when she was beaten by Iga Swiatek in the 2022 final at Roland Garros. When it comes to titles won on hard courts, the American made it all the way in 2019 Linz, 2023 & 2024 Auckland, 2023 Washington, 2023 Cincinnati, 2023 US Open, 2024 Beijing, 2024 WTA Finals, 2025 Wuhan.

"I didn't know that was a stat, so I'll try not to think about it if I'm in another hardcourt final to keep that record going," the new 10-time WTA champion admitted.

Gauff pulled off a Serena Williams feat by doing so

By winning her ninth consecutive WTA hard-court final, the 21-year-old American became the first player since Williams to do such a thing.

By winning Wuhan and also reaching the Beijing semifinal in Asia, the top-ranked American female tennis player boosted her confidence to the maximum heading into her WTA Finals title defense.

"This definitely gives me a lot more confidence going into the WTA finals, after the way the mid-part of the season went for me, especially in New York. It gives me a lot of confidence to try to defend that title," Gauff noted.
