Coco Gauff now has a Wuhan title in her collection and has also added a couple of additional notable records to her already-impressive resume.
On Sunday, the world No. 3 overcame fellow American Jessica Pegula 6-4 7-5 in the final of the Chinese WTA 1000 tournament. For the 21-year-old, it was her 10th title.
For Gauff, the Wuhan final marked her ninth appearance in a WTA hard-court final. And she now owns a perfect 9-0 record in those finals, which makes her the first player since Serena Williams to win nine consecutive hard-court finals. For the record, the American tennis icon won 12 consecutive finals on a hard court between 2013 and 2015.
Gauff registers the most dominant Wuhan triumph
En route to winning her first Wuhan title, the American tennis star was absolutely clinical - d. Moyuka Uchijima 6-1 6-0, d. Zhang Shuai 6-3 6-2, d. Laura Siegemund 6-3 6-0, d. Jasmine Paolini 6-4 6-3, and d. Pegula 6-4 7-5. In total, the No. 3 seed dropped only 25 games - which makes her the winner with the fewest dropped games en route to winning the Chinese WTA 1000 tournament.
Also, Gauff joined Caroline Garcia in completing the Asian WTA 1000 swing as the 21-year-old is the second player to have triumphed in both Beijing and Wuhan.
