Former world number one Kim Clijsters ended up in hospital after withdrawing from the Luxembourg Ladies Tennis Masters, an event where former professional players take part. Playing a match against Alize Cornet, Clijsters lost 6-0, 2-1, after which she was forced to surrender the match.
The Belgian took to social media to share a video from her hospital bed, revealing that she had undergone surgery for a ruptured Achilles tendon. The tournament in Luxembourg was a challenge for the former tennis player, who in her later years decided to try her competitive spirit again and return to the court.
Even though her opponents are of a similar age, it seems that not playing for a long period of time has taken its toll on the body. In her video, Clijsters pointed out that she is already on the road to recovery and hopes to return as soon as possible and fully recover.
Recovery
The Belgian did not forget to thank everyone who supported her and sent messages of encouragement. She is grateful for all the words that have reached her, admitting that she was initially bitter and frustrated about this injury, but that she is now in a more positive mood and believes in a quick recovery.
In the following, Clijsters said that she will regularly inform her fans about the progress of her rehabilitation, while at the moment she wants to rest and devote herself to things that are her priority.
