Lorenzo Musetti is chasing the goal of the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin, where he would have the chance to play in front of his fans and crown the efforts made this season in the best possible way. There is no doubt that 2025 was the best year of the young Italian star's career, who finally found that consistency he had lacked in the past and collected a series of excellent results especially in red clay tournaments (although he did not lift a single trophy).
The ace from Carrara struggled to find his best shape after the injury suffered at Roland Garros just as he was putting Carlos Alcaraz in trouble on the iconic Philippe Chatrier but the right confidence returned during the US Open, where he reached the quarterfinals thanks to a very convincing run on the surface that is less suited to his game.
Musetti was subdued
The current world number 9 has also expressed an excellent level during the Asian swing, as evidenced by the results made in Chengdu and Beijing. He reached the round of 16 at the Shanghai Rolex Masters and if he had beaten Canadian player Felix Auger-Aliassime yesterday would have further boosted his chances of qualifying for the Finals, but now he will have to hope that the latter does not get too far in the penultimate Masters 1000 of 2025.

Speaking on 'Sky Sport Italy', former ATP ace Paolo Bertolucci admitted that Musetti was subdued during the clash against Aliassime: "We didn't see the usual Lorenzo, perhaps because of the excessive pressure he had put on himself. The Canadian tennis player has shown that he is in excellent shape and I don't know if the best Musetti would have defeated him on this surface, but he certainly did not show his full potential. The result was quite clear and there was never the feeling that the Italian could turn the match around."
If there are no changes in his schedule, Musetti will be back in action in Brussels next week and will be the number 1 seed.
