Just before WWE NXTs huge ShowDown special, Santino Marella dropped a surprise that could shift the entire match dynamic.
On October 5, Marella posted a video on Twitter confirming that TNA star Joe Hendry will serve as the special guest referee for the mens Survivor Series-style match between WWE NXT and TNA Wrestling. In the video, Santino addressed Hendry directly:
This move adds yet another twist to a show thats already packed with interpromotional drama. Just a few days ago, Ava confirmed Jordynne Grace would referee the womens Survivor Series-style match, acknowledging Graces impact on bringing the NXTTNA collaboration to life.
The updated mens NXT team features Ricky Saints, Trick Williams, JeVon Evans, and Myles Borne. On the TNA side, Mike Santana will lead Leon Slater, Moose, and Frankie Kazarian. The womens match will see Jacy Jayne, Jaida Parker, Sol Ruca, and Lola Vice take on Kelani Jordan, Jessie McKay, Cassie Lee, and Mara Sad with Grace now in charge of keeping it fair.
But Joe Hendrys addition to the card raises even more questions, especially given his reputation and relationship with some of the wrestlers involved. With two guest referees now involved, this NXT vs. TNA ShowDown has taken a sharp turn into unpredictable territory.
