The Miz just dropped a bombshell about his first Money in the Bank victory and how close he came to making history for all the wrong reasons.
Speaking on the Unlikely podcast, the former WWE Champion revealed that the original plan was for him to be the first-ever Superstar to fail a Money in the Bank cash-in. According to The Miz, WWE creative saw him as the perfect person to make the briefcases first failure memorable because it fit his character at the time.
However, everything changed at the last minute. The Miz revealed that on the day of his scheduled cash-in, he was told his career-defining moment was about to happen.
The Miz went on to successfully cash in his Money in the Bank contract on Randy Orton during the November 22, 2010 episode of Monday Night Raw, securing his first WWE Championship. He remembered the moment as surreal but also tried to hold back his emotions in front of the crowd.
Instead of becoming WWEs first failed Money in the Bank cash-in, The Miz launched a reign that included defeating John Cena in the main event of WrestleMania 27. The unfortunate honor of being the first to fail a cash-in would later go to Damien Sandow in 2013.
Hearing The Miz reveal how close WWE came to flipping the script on his career shows just how unpredictable wrestling can be.
