
World no. 42 Joao Fonseca will not travel to China this year. The 19-year-old made changes in his schedule and withdrew from the penultimate Masters 1000 event of the season.
Instead, the young gun will take a couple of weeks off the courtbefore embracing the European indoor swing. Joao should enter Brussels, Basel, the Paris Masters and Metz or Athens in the final week of his 2025 campaign.
The Brazilian competed for Team World at the Laver Cup in San Francisco. He defeated Flavio Cobolli in straight sets and wrote history, becoming the youngest player with a victory at this event.
Joao decided to take a break and enjoy his time off the court while his rival are chasing the Masters 1000 crown in Shanghai. The youngster is 7-7 at a Masters 1000 level. He scored a win in Madrid on his debut at this level in April 2024.
Fonsecacollectedthree victories in Indian Wells and Miami this March and repeated last year's run in Madrid. The rising teenager defeated two rivals in Cincinnati, becoming the youngest player with a win at this event since 2015.

Fonseca is 20-14 in 2025. He started the season with a Challenger title and showed his rich talent by reaching the main draw at the Australian Open and stunning Andrey Rublev.
The Brazilian lifted his first ATP title in Buenos Aires in February, joining the list of ATP winners at 18. Joao celebrated another Challenger title in Phoenix in March and reached the third round at Roland Garros.
He experienced tight losses at three grass-court events, gathering experience on the fastest surface. Fonseca fell in the second round at the US Open before helping Brazil beat Greece in the Davis Cup in Athens.
Joao joined Team World at the Laver Cup before taking a break, scheduling his tournaments wisely and hoping for a strong run in the closing weeks of the season.
