Jannik Sinner's season has been truly excellent even if he lost the first position in the ATP rankings, especially if you consider that he was unable to play any official tournament between February and May due to the ban that was inflicted on him by WADA for the 'Clostebol case'.
The Italian ace lifted two Grand Slam titles in 2025, becoming the first Italian ever to triumph at the Wimbledon Championships, the most prestigious tournament on the calendar. The former world No. 1 who won in Australia for the second year in a row also reached the final at Roland Garros and the US Open, but had to surrender to his main rival Carlos Alcaraz in both cases. His loss in Paris was particularly painful, because he was ahead by two sets and a break against the 22-year-old Spaniard and had three match points available in the fourth set.
However, the 24-year-old from Sesto Pusteria quickly metabolized that disappointment by demonstrating all his mental strength and lifting the trophy at Church Road a few weeks later. It was reasonable to expect something more from him in New York, instead he was dominated by Carlitos who unleashed a performance bordering on perfection on the iconic Arthur Ashe Stadium in front of US President Donald Trump. At the end of that match, the four-time Grand Slam champion stressed the need to evolve as a player and bring some changes in his game to become more unpredictable against an opponent like Alcaraz.
Jannik wants to change his game
Speaking on Eurosport, former French player and coach Georges Goven advised Jannik not to make too many changes: "Sinner has an essential and perfect game, he is number 2 in the world currently and has been at the top of the ATP rankings for many weeks. He doesn't need to change his game and become like Bublik, otherwise he risks losing his certainties and slipping back in the ATP rankings."
Jannik will have to defend a lot of points between now and the end of the season.
