Elina Svitolina has just announced that she is putting an end to her 2025 season, and it appears that she is doing it because she wants to prioritize her mental health.
This year, Svitolina appeared in a total of 15 tournaments and she posted a 35-14 record. During the clay season, the Ukrainian played her best tennis of the year as she won Rouen - reached the Madrid Open semifinal - as well as reached the quarterfinal at the Rome Open and the French Open.
But since then, Svitolina's form and results haven't been the same. After stunningly losing in the US Open first round to Anna Bondar, the Ukrainian snapped her three-match losing streak by beating Paula Badosa during the Billie Jean King Cup action.

Over the next three weeks, Svitolina was slated to play in back-to-back WTA 1000 tournaments in Beijing and Wuhan. And after abruptly withdrawing from Beijing, the world No. 13 also decided to call it a season.
Svitolina: I'm not in the right emotional space and I don't feel ready to play
"I havent been feeling like myself lately. Im not in the right emotional space, and I dont feel ready to play, so I am therefore ending the season here. Over the years, Ive learned that this sport isnt about money, fame, or rankingsits about being ready to fight and to give your all. Right now, Im simply not at the level mentally or emotionally to do that," Svitolina wrote in a message posted on her Instagram Story.
"Not every day has to be productive, strong, or full of energy. Some days are heavyand that doesnt make me weak. It just means Im human and need time to rest, to feel, to breathe and to just be. So Im giving myself the space I need to heal and recharge, instead of forcing it, and when I step back on the court, I want to fight with everything Ive got and put my best self on the court for the fans, for the game, and for myself."

Svitolina, who turned 31 on September 12th, has had a pretty comeback to tennis since returning as a mother in mid-2023. Hopefully, she gets the rest she needs and comes back fully recharged at the start of 2026.
