The victory obtained at the US Open allowed Carlos Alcaraz to beat his top rival Jannik Sinner on the favorite surface of the Italian ace, who had not lost a match on the hard courts in a Major for two years. The Spanish star put in a truly outstanding performance on the iconic Arthur Ashe Stadium and clinched the sixth Grand Slam title of his young career, the second in 2025 after his incredible success at Roland Garros earlier this summer.
Due to the losssuffered in New York, the 24-year-old Italian has lost the first position in the ATP ranking after more than a year and it will not be easy for him to return to the top by the end of this year having to defend many points between now and November.
Despite the three-month ban that kept him out of action from February to May, Jannik can still be proud of his season, considering that he lifted the trophy in two very prestigious tournaments such as the Australian Open and the Wimbledon Championships (he became the first Italian ever to prevail at Church Road thanks to a spectacular run).

Alcaraz and Sinner are dominant
The rivalry between the Spaniard and the Italian will be very intense in the latter part of this season, but most fans are already looking forward to the 2026 edition of the Australian Open. It's no secret that these two young champions want to make tennis history and try to get closer to the records of the Big 3.
In the latest episode of the 'Nothing Major' podcast, former American ace Sam Querrey tried to predict who will win the most Major titles between Alcaraz and Sinner: I think Alcaraz has a better shot. Him winning on the hard courts feels more feasible than Jannik winning on the clay. I dont think Janniks dominant on the clay.
He could have won it this year, but it just feels like, you know, maybe Jannik comes up against Musetti, and then, you know, Casper, and then Alcarazits a little tougher. Id give the slight edge to Carlos on that one.
