Novak Djokovic will not lead Serbia in the Davis Cup World Group I tie against Turkey this weekend in Nis. The 38-year-old withdrew from the action after reaching the US Open semi-final, choosing recovery and more time off the court.

Novak has carried the Serbian colors for over two decades, embracing a 41-8 run in singles rubbers and leading his country toward the title in 2010. However, the veteran's focus not shifts to preserving his body and extending his career on the Tour.

Djokovic has always underlined the importance of national duty, describing Davis Cup appearances as some of the most meaningful moments of his career.

While he regrets missing the upcoming tie, Novak expressed confidence in his teammates' chances of advancing and securing a spot in next year's World Group. Miomir Kecmanovic and Hamad Medjedovic will lead Serbia against Turkey.

The 24-time Major winner also reflected on how special it is to play in front of Serbian fans. He has rarely had that opportunity in recent years following the Davis Cup changes.

He led his country against Greece last year and wished for at least one more chance to experience that atmosphere before ending his career. Djokovic will prioritize rest and recovery following another deep run at Majors.

He will cheer for his teammates this weekend before joining them again in next year's Davis Cup campaign if he feels he is the rightoption for the captain to select.

"I wished I could have played the Davis Cup. Representing my country throughout my career has been an honor and a privilege. I always look forward to playing for Serbia, but it all depends on my body, as I want to be the best option for our team.

I hope we can pass Turkey and play in the World group next year, we deserve that. The Davis Cup changes made me happy, as we have more opportunities to compete at home.

The tie against Greece aside, I have not played in front of the home crowd for seven years. I miss that feeling and wish to get at least one more chance to wear the national jersey in front of our fans," Novak Djokovic said.
