He suffered one break from the only chance offered to the defending champion and kept the pressure on the other side. Sinner could not follow that pace, struggling to impose his shots and getting broken five times from 11 chances presented to his greatest rival.

Alcaraz will enjoy a couple of days off the court before heading to San Francisco for the Laver Cup, leading Team Europe alongside Alexander Zverev.
