Liv Morgans alleged stalker, a Canadian wrestling fan named Shawn Chan, will now be sitting for a hearing after he recently filed a motion in the case.
According to PWInsider, a hearing has been scheduled for Tuesday, September 16 at 11:00 AM in Tampa for Shawn Chan. Chan was arrested in June after traveling to the U.S. and loitering for hours outside Morgans Florida home. He has remained in jail since then but is now asking to be released on bond, with his attorneys saying theyve secured him a bed at a local Salvation Army.
Prosecutors are strongly opposing his release. They argue that Chan is a danger to the community, a flight risk, and that no conditions can guarantee he will show up for future court dates or keep others, including Liv Morgan, safe. They dismissed the Salvation Army plan, saying it doesnt meet the legal standard to reconsider his detention.
Court filings revealed that Chan had left a note at Morgans home with his name, Canadian address, and phone number. Prosecutors also pointed out that Chan has no family, job, or legal status to work in the U.S., and his only real ties are in Canada, making it easy for him to flee if released. They also noted concerns about his mental health, as his lawyers have since requested a competency evaluation despite him originally claiming no issues.
The government concluded that because of the nature of the crime, the evidence against him, his lack of U.S. ties, and potential mental health concerns, Chan should remain behind bars until trial.
FBI agents arrested Chan on June 3 after WWE security identified him from Liv Morgans home footage. He was indicted on June 25 and now faces up to five years in prison on a federal charge of interstate domestic violence.
This troubling case shows the real risks WWE stars deal with outside the ring. With prosecutors pushing to keep him locked up and new questions about his mental health, the September 16 hearing will decide if Shawn Chan stays in jail or is released under strict rules.
