Emma Raducanu has made it clear that she doesn't find the Carlos Alcaraz haircut criticism founded, as the British tennis star says the five-time Grand Slam champion "pulled it off with confidence" and "owns it."
Usually, Alcaraz makes the headlines due to his strong play and impressive results. But this time, the 22-year-old made the headlines even before the start of the US Open after he was spotted at Flushing Meadows rocking a short haircut known as the buzz cut.
The haircut drew mixed reactions, with some liking it and praising Alcaraz for getting out of his comfort zone and trying something different, while some didn't like it and made it pretty clear. One of them was fellow ATP star Frances Tiafoe, who called the haircut as "terrible."
"Yeah, it's horrible. I mean it's definitely terrible. It's my guy though. It's funny though. I looked at him, and was like, 'I guess you're aerodynamic.'... 'Yeah, I'm faster than I already was.' Well that's a problem. But yeah, I don't know who told him that was good, or to do that, but it's terrible," Tiafoe said about the Spaniard's haircut.
Raducanu slams Tiafoe's take on Alcaraz's new haircut
Raducanu doesn't only disagree with some of the negative takes about the Spaniard's buzz cut, but she also finds the new haircut cool.
"I think Frances was harsh on him. I think the fact that he does it with confidence and owns it. I think he pulled it off," Raducanu said.
Meanwhile, Alcaraz had a light response when asked about Tiafoe's scathing criticism of his haircut.
Frances is lying. No, come on. I saw the video. He said it is terrible. I know he is lying. I know he likes the haircut. He told me. Dont hear anything coming from his mouth," the Spaniard said.
Meanwhile, Raducanu and Alcaraz played together in the US Open mixed doubles event, and lost in the opening round to Jessica Pegula and Jack Draper.
