Tom McKibbin is one of the biggest talents in the world of golf, and his name has been in the news more and more at the beginning of this year and at the end of last year. The Northern Irish golfer was faced with an important decision and ultimately decided to join LIV Golf, even though his idol Rory McIlroy advised him to accept the invitation of the PGA Tour.
The 22-year-old seems happy with his decision, and his Legion XIII team even managed to win the team title. They won the final LIV Golf Team Championship in Michigan. The captain of the team was Jon Rahm, and in addition to McKibbin, the team also included Tyrrell Hatton and Caleb Surratt.
After the tournament, the young golfer shared his emotions about playing with Rahm and Hatton this season. He admits that he has learned a lot from them and points out that in the future he would like to spend as much time as possible playing with them, considering that it is a great opportunity for him to learn something new.
Yeah, I think getting to spend time with Jon and Tyrrell has definitely, Ive definitely learned a lot from them, McKibbin said.
And then I think getting paired with some of the other guys and stuff throughout the tournaments, people that youve watched on TV or grew up watching, Im getting to learn from them.
Yeah, its been an incredible year. Getting to spend it with these three guys has been incredible. Ive learned so much. Just being around them has been really good."
Tom McKibbin: The whole years been special
LIV Golf decided to introduce many innovations when it came to the world of this sport, and the team aspect of the game was one of the innovations that caused the most controversy. However, the golfers who play on the Saudi-backed Tour seem to be happy with this and admit that it is a real pleasure to play with their teammates.
Tom McKibbin also emphasizes that he enjoys performing in team tournaments, and it is a particularly big thing to win in such serious competition.
The whole years been special, and today was a really cool day to sort of go out there. Youre out there on your own, but youre playing for three other guys. For us to come out on top first year is really cool.
