Andrey Rublev has made himself available to Daniil Medvedev in case his compatriot needs someone to talk to, but also adds that he hasn't yet reached out to the 29-year-old because he needs some time to process what happened.
Medvedev didn't only go through another disappointing Grand Slam run at the US Open, but he also made all the headlines for creating one of the most stunning meltdowns of the year. After a photographer walked onto the court in the critical moments of his match against Benjamin Bonzi, the former world No. 1 made it a riot out there and was yelling some strong words.
If you can recall, Rublev delivered a shocking scene in early 2024, when he confronted a line umpire in Dubai and yelled in their face before being disqualified. Later, the 27-year-old publicly admitted to dealing with mental health issues and vowed to seek help - he kept his word and did so.
Following Medvedev's US Open tirade, tennis legend Boris Becker said that the 20-time ATP champion should seek professional help. After beating Dino Prizmic 6-4 6-4 6-4 in his opening match at Flushing Meadows, Rublev was asked to share his thoughts on that one.
Rublev: If Medvedev needs me, I'm here
"I don't know - if he wants to change and needs help he has me, a lot of other friends and family that will help him. But it's his life and his decision what he needs to do. Only he knows what is happening. I haven't spoke to him yet. I think he needs to take some time because it was a tough loss for him, but I will text him. The year he's had in the Slams [winning only one match] has not been easy for him," Rublev answered.
In his post-match presser, Medvedev refused to further harshly criticize chair umpire Greg Allensworth or the photographer in question because he was "already expecting a big fine."
