
World no. 1 and the defending US Open champion Jannik Sinner made a winning start in New York. The Italian faced Vit Kopriva in the first round and notcheda dominant 6-1, 6-1, 6-2 victory in an hour and 38 minutes.
Thus, Jannik delivered his 22th consecutive hard-court Major victory. The favorite dominated with his first serve and kept the second safe, defending both break points and keeping the pressure on the other side.

The Italian clinched a break in the fourth game of the third set. He defended two break points in game seven and forged a 5-2 advantage. Jannik made another push on the return in game eight, firing a backhand down the line winner and moving over the top.
