Jannik Sinner is through to the last four in Cincinnati after four straight-sets triumphs. World no. 1 faced Felix Auger-Aliassime in the quarter-final and scored a dominant 6-0, 6-2 victory in 72 minutes.
The defending champion had the upper hand on serve and return, welcoming a terrible performance from his rival and moving over the top in style. Jannik admitted he feels better with every match in Cincinnati.
The Italian liked his performance against the Canadian while remaining cautious, aware of the upcoming challenges. Sinner makred his return as the key element in his one-sided win, as it gave him confidence and allow to play freely in his games.
Felix celebrated in the previous two matches against Jannik. However, he stood no chance in Cincinnati following a pale performance that kept him without chances. The Italian lost 11 points in seven service games.
He got broken early in the second set before rattling off six games en route to the win. Jannik clinched 64% of the return points and turned them into six breaks from ten opportunities.
Sinner played with a reduced pace and landed seven winners and 12 unforced errors. It was more than enough to keep him in front following a 5-29 ratio from his rival, who never found his strokes.
"The early rounds are never easy because you have to adjust to the conditions on the court. You get a picture after a couple of matches and understand what you have to improve.
It's natural to feel better each day, and I'm happy with my progress. I felt great on the court today, and it showed. However, every day is different, and I have to be cautious. Tomorrow is a rest day, and I will use it for good training sessions.
My return worked very well today. It was a key point in my victory, as it provided me with confidence to serve well. I had a slight dip early in the second set, but I broke right back," Jannik Sinner said.
