Paula Badosa is officially set to miss the entire North American hard-court swing after deciding to withdraw from the US Open due to her ongoing back injury.

After being troubled by her back in the spring, the world No. 10 was out of action for two months before returning to action in late May. While the Spanish tennis star managed to compete at the French Open and Wimbledon, her woes followed her and she lost to Katie Boulter in her opening match at The Championships.

Since losing in round one at Wimbledon, Badosa skipped Washington, Montreal, and the ongoing Cincinnati. Now, the 27-year-old had to make "an incredibly difficult" decision and also pull out of the Grand Slam of the year.

It is worth mentioning that the Spaniard was also slated to play mixed doubles with Jack Draper in New York but now that pairing is off.

Badosa out of the final Slam of the year

"It is with a heavy heart that l am announcing my withdrawal from this year's US Open. This decision was incredibly difficult to make. After the amazing run I had in New York last year and the deep connection i feel with the city and its fans, stepping away from this tournament is very emotional for me. The US Open has always meant a great deal to me and I have created some of my most special memories there," the former world No. 2 said in her message.

Last year, Badosa made her second Grand Slam quarterfinal at the US Open before losing to home favorite Emma Navarro. A couple of months after a big run at Flushing Meadows, the Spaniard went on to reach her maiden Slam semifinal at Melbourne Park.

Now that the world No. 10is set to be out for at least another month, she plans to focus on recovering as well as possible for the Asian swing.

"Right now I need to focus on my health and recovery so i can return stronger and ready to compete again," Badosa noted.
