Alexander Zverev has had an excellent career so far and the numbers certify it. The German champion has been world number 2, won several Masters 1000, won the ATP Finals twice, won the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 and reached three Grand Slam finals, but has still failed to lift one of the four most important trophies in the world of tennis.

It's no secret that Sascha absolutely wants to break this curse and thought he was very close to the finish line at the Australian Open earlier this year, but his run came to an abrupt end against Jannik Sinner in the final. The current world No.1 taught him a hard lesson at Melbourne Park, beating him in three sets and not giving him a single break point during that match.

The former world No.2 struggled to metabolize that loss more than expected and his results in the following months were disastrous, particularly at Roland Garros and the Wimbledon Championships, which were his main goals. The ace from Hamburg practiced alongside Toni Nadal after Wimbledon and also benefited from Rafa's advice, but did not go beyond the semifinals at the Toronto Masters 1000 despite the absence of all the other top players.

Zverev is going through a crisis

Recently, Zverev confessed that he is not going through a positive moment either on or off the court and added that he no longer finds the right motivation to express his best tennis.

In an interview with 'Tennis Magazin', Thomas Baschab a famous mental coach was asked what the reason behind Sascha's problems is: "Zverev has often been referred to as mentally weak because he has lost three Grand Slam finals and hasn't achieved this yet, but it's an absurd theory. If a player like Alexander was mentally weak, he could never have become world No. 2 and lifted all those trophies. His problem has totally different roots."

Sascha's next tournaments will be the Cincinnati Masters 1000 and the US Open.
