Few expected Charley Hull to excel at the last AIG Women's Open. The English golfer picked up a virus before this tournament, and also had problems with her back. The public was not optimistic about her chances at this tournament, but the 29-year-old surprised everyone, finishing as T2, two shots behind the winner, Miya Yamashita.
In an interview with the media, the English golfer spoke openly about her success, admitting that she was not quite optimistic about this tournament. Reasons for that? There are many of them.
Coming into this week I didnt think I was going to make the cut, Hull said, as quoted by the Liv Golf Weekly.
Thats the truthful of it. I wasnt hitting it very well. I couldnt prepare properly because I was poorly. I collapsed three times at Evian, and I still wasnt feeling well until Sunday last week.

Although she was 11 shots behind before the weekend, Hull managed to claw her way back into the game, at one point being just one shot behind the leaders.
Although she admits that links courses are not her favorite, she managed to keep her focus and show the dominance she needed.
I dont really like links courses. I find them so hard to visualise, she said.
But I was swinging it easy today. I hit it so pure.
Its not like I whiffed a drive or messed anything up. I played solid. I felt in control.
Charley Hull didn't follow the scoreboard
The English golfer didn't even know how she stood during the tournament, as she didn't follow the scoreboard.
During the press conference, Hull wondered if she had even been in the lead at any point. Although she wasnt on top, her performance is certainly a reason for optimism heading into the next tournaments, as moments of dominance like this are a great sign that the 29-year-old could lift another trophy soon.
