Madison Keys delivered some heroics today as the reigning Australian Open champion saved two match points to edge out Karolina Muchova 4-6 6-3 7-5 and progress into the quarterfinal of the WTA 1000 tournament in Montreal.
In the first set, the 11th-seeded Czech blew an early break, but got another one in the seventh game before serving out for the opener in the 10th game.
Down by a set, Keys - who is seeded at No. 6 - bounced back by earning a break in the fourth game and then holding to her serve for the rest of the set to send the match into a decider.
The third set was a rollercoaster. The first to get a break was Keys, who went 2-0 up. However, Muchova refused to quit as she got the break back - ultimately opening a 5-4 lead - and also had two match points on the No. 6 seed's serve. Just when it seemed that the momentum was on the Czech's side, the American impressively saved both match points, before collecting the key break in the 11th game and sealing the deal on her serve in the following game.

For a place in the Montreal semifinal, Keys will battle against the winner of the match between Iga Swiatek and Clara Tauson.
Keys achieves an outstanding feat
By saving two match points to beat Muchova, the 30-year-old American - who also saved two consecutive match points to beat Swiatek in the Australian Open - became the second player in 2025 to have won multiple matches after saving match points.
Unless Swiatek suffers a shock defeat tonight, the American and the Pole will meet once again this year.
