Ben Affleck and Matt Damon have quietly canceled their planned Hulk Hogan documentary, Killing Gawker and the move reportedly has nothing to do with Hogans recent death.
According to TMZ, the project was dropped by their production company, Artists Equity, well before the wrestling legend passed away. Sources close to the situation said the decision to pull the plug happened a while ago, and theres no connection between Hogans death and the film being scrapped.
Affleck was previously set to portray Hulk Hogan, while Damon had signed on to play tech billionaire Peter Thiel, the man who famously funded Hogans lawsuit against Gawker. That case ended with a $140 million judgment against the media company and led to its bankruptcy.
While the film was expected to dive into the courtroom battle that made headlines worldwide, its now completely dead. No official reason has been provided for the cancellation.
There had also been legal tension brewing around the project. Hogan had publicly indicated in the past that he was prepared to take legal action if the film crossed lines involving his privacy. Its unclear if that concern played any role in the documentary being shelved.
Now, with the project gone, fans who were looking forward to seeing the dramatized version of Hogans courtroom war with Gawker will have to wait and see if another production team steps in.
