WWE is currently interested in a former AEW star who parted ways with the company this year, but in a very unexpected role.
According to Fightful Select, WWE has reached out to Leyla Hirsch about possibly trying out for a referee position. This would be a new direction for the Legit wrestler, who left AEW earlier this year and has been competing on the independent wrestling scene since then.
Sources within WWE state that conversations about contacting Hirsch started around the middle of June. Its not yet known if she has agreed to the tryout or if it has already happened.
While its rare for wrestlers to switch to referee roles, it has happened before. One example is Jessika Carr, who started as a referee in WWE and later returned to in-ring competition in EVOLVE under the name Kalyx in 2025.
We will have to wait and see whether Leyla Hirsch will end up making her way to WWE as a referee instead of an in-ring competitor, as anything is possible in the world of professional wrestling.
