The July 18 episode of WWE SmackDown was quite a show at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas. That being said, they had a lot to take care of before SummerSlam.
Cody Rhodes and John Cena will face each other at SummerSlam. This week on SmackDown, they brought that vibe to Texas as the two had a contract signing.
The final segment of SmackDown this week saw a contract signing between John Cena and Cody Rhodes. After Cody cut a promo, Cena came out to break some bad news.
John Cena said that he will not be at SummerSlam. He is filming a big movie for Netflix, and hes emotionally exhausted. So, we all feel it is best that I dont compete at SummerSlam. Cena said that Cody is going to get his rematch, but it wont be at SummerSlam, you can do it in Paris, or Perth, but Cena said there was no way he could sign his SummerSlam contract.
Cody Rhodes didnt look happy about this at all. John Cena sat there, making excuses, also claiming that this tough decision was best for business right now. Fans booed Cena, so he got up to make his point. Cena said it was hard for him to even make it to Texas for the show tonight.
Cody Rhodes got up after that, and he demanded that John Cena sign the contract. Cena said if he signs the contract, then he has to be there, but he refused to sign it. He thanked Cody and said he appreciates him, but he didnt sign the paper. So, Cody Rhodes ran out to attack Cena and drag him back to the ring. Cena took control of Cody and threw him into the steel steps.
Then Cody got in the ring with Cena, and he ducked as Cena tried to nail him with the title. Cody took the title and whacked Cena with it instead. Then he made Cena sign the contract by climbing up top with the binder and nailing a splash before he put the pen in Cenas hand and put ink to paper. That was quite a way to make the match official. Cody also revealed that their match is a street fight.
SummerSlam will go down at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on August 2 and 3. It will be the first-ever two-night SummerSlam event, so its likely that they will have a lot going on at the biggest party of the summer.
