A civil lawsuit was filed against AEW by Christopher Dispensa, a longtime production worker who helped run AEW events, where he claimed Jon Moxley injured him on-screen. AEW President Tony Khan was finally asked about the lawsuit but refused to comment on it.
During the All In: Texas media call, Jon Alba brought up a question about the production crew member who is suing the company and Jon Moxley, as well as what protocols exist for talent working with the production crew. Tony Khan responded by saying it wasnt how he wanted to begin things, but he couldnt comment on ongoing legal matters.
In the lawsuit, Dispensa claimed he got badly hurt during the May 10, 2023 episode of AEW Dynamite in Detroit. The injury happened during a violent cage match between Jon Moxley and Kenny Omega. He claims Moxley suddenly pushed him while grabbing a screwdriver, something that wasnt part of the plan.
According to Dispensa, the push caused serious neck and shoulder injuries. He needed major surgery, including a neck fusion and shoulder operation. His lawyers say both AEW and Moxley were careless and didnt do enough to protect crew members. Dispensa is seeking over $25,000 in damages for what his legal team describes asinjuries suffered due to actions of the wrestler and the company he worked for.
As reported earlier, on July 3, AEW requested that the case be moved to federal court. They cited diversity of citizenship and noted that the claimed lien is over $215,000. Tony Khan might not be ready to talk publicly about the lawsuit, but the case will get a lot of attention from people inside the wrestling business and fans alike and so well have to see how the case will move forward in the coming weeks.
