CM Punk apologized for his tweet against Saudi Arabia during the Night of Champions kickoff show, but many people felt his apology was not sincere at all. Theres still a lot of controversy surrounding Punks apology and now Jim Ross has come to Punks defense.

While speaking on Grilling JR, Conrad Thompson asked Jim Ross what he thought about the so-called controversy of CM Punk being in Saudi Arabia. Ross said people were making too much of it. He said Punks heart was in the right place and pointed out that Punk is always controversial, which is part of what makes him interesting to follow.

Ross also mentioned that Punk is a good friend of his and that he fully supports his work. He admitted he still wishes Punk was in AEW because he brings so much to any show hes part of. Overall, Ross thought people were just overthinking the situation. To him, wrestling is supposed to be fun and entertaining, and thats how hes always looked at it.

This comes after Dave Meltzer recently claimed that WWE planted the fan that CM Punk apologized to. Thats not all as even Ryback made it clear CM Punk is not a sellout for competing in Saudi Arabia. Regardless, its clear the whole situation is overblown and many fans will agree with what Jim Ross had to say.

Do you feel the CM Punk controversy is overblown? Sound off in the comments.
