Britt Bakers AEW future is suddenly looking shaky but walking away might not be as simple as fans think.
Bodyslam.net reports that Sources have confirmed that Britt Baker is actively seeking to part ways with AEW, sending shockwaves through the wrestling world after weeks of cryptic posts and rumors about her status.
Baker, who hasnt appeared on AEW television since November 2024, fueled speculation with a pointed Instagram story last week. The former AEW Womens World Champion shared a quote about self-worth that immediately got people talking.
The part she specifically highlighted read: Same water. The only thing that changed its value was the place. The message continued: So next time you feel your worth is nothing, maybe youre at the wrong place.
While Baker didnt mention AEW by name, the timing combined with her absence from TV had fans convinced she was sending a message.
Her appearance on Sammy Guevaras vlog at Animeverse only added fuel to the fire. When the two joked about how long it had been since they last saw each other, Baker told Guevara: Good to see you, well hopefully see you soon. Guevara laughed, replying: Yeah, hopefully. Yeah, maybe in six years.
But heres where things get complicated. Fightful Select previously reported that Baker is still very much under AEW contract, having signed a five-year deal in late 2021. That means shes locked in for well over a year, not including potential injury time that could be added.
Sources also told Fightful that WWE hasnt had recent discussions with Baker about a potential jump, though they acknowledged shes always welcome backstage.
If Baker really does want out of AEW, it wont happen unless the company agrees to grant her a release and AEW has been known to play hardball when it comes to letting top-tier talent go.
