WWE Night of Champions 2025 went down on Saturday, June 28th at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The time is now for John Cenas retirement, and he defended the Universal Title against an old friend and foe.
CM Punk stepped up to John Cena and got a match at Night of Champions for the Undisputed Universal Title. Fans were expecting a lot from this match, as it would be the last time the two will meet in the ring.
This match got big fight feel introductions, and fans exploded with chants and cheers for both competitors. The match was even as they traded moves, but neither of them backed down. Once John Cena got control of the match, things slowed down a bit as Punk sold the assault.
John Cena hit a few of his moves of doom, but he didnt land the Attitude Adjustment without Punk slipping away. Then it was the Second City Saviors turn to take control of the match. He climbed up for an elbow drop and then he called for a GTS, but Cena reversed to turn it into an STF.
Eventually, John Cena nailed an AA for a near fall. Then they traded some moves before Punk latched on an STF of his own. They kept going and John Cena nailed another Attitude Adjustment for a very close two count. Fans chanted, this is awesome, as the match carried on.
They battled on the top rope and then transitioned to the floor, where John Cena nailed a third Attitude Adjustment, but CM Punk kicked out of that one as well. Then John went to ringside and got his title. He brought it into the ring, but he put his title down. Then Punk nailed a GTS for a near fall of his own.
The referee accidentally ate a shoulder tackle from John Cena, and CM Punk hit a GTS. However, nobody was around to count when the cover was made. Suddenly, Seth Rollins came walking out with his Money in the Bank briefcase and his entire faction.
Bronson Reed and Bron Breakker jumped in the ring, but CM Punk fought them off, and then he nailed a dive on them at ringside. The two were able to team up and put Punk through the Arabic announce table.
Seth Rollins called for another referee, but John Cena took that official out. Rollins wasnt happy, and then he ducked under a MITB briefcase shot to nail an AA on Rollins. Breakker and Reed jumped Cena after that. Punk was busted open at ringside, and then Penta came out to distract Breakker for a bit as they fought in the ring and then Sami Zayn ran out to help Penta out.
Bronson Reed missed his Tsunami off the top rope and he ate an AA from Cena. The chaos was over, but there was still no referee. Both competitors had to help each other out in the melee and fans chanted for them to fight forever.
Cena and Punk met in the ring and they shook hands before they hugged. Then Cena tried to turn on Punk, but he blocked it. Suddenly, Rollins jumped in the ring and nailed a Stomp on Punk before Cena got the pinfall as the referee got back in the ring. Cena retained in Saudi Arabia, but it was quite a match.
This situation certainly got intense, and things escalated quickly in many ways. John Cenas retirement tour in WWE will continue, and he has already made it clear that there will be no one-off matches in his future.
