The three-hour era of WWE SmackDown is officially done.

Ringside News has learned that starting July 4, SmackDown will permanently return to its two-hour format on the USA Network.

Fans frustrated with the longer run-time can finally breathe easy, because this is not a temporary move. The three-hour SmackDowns are done as of this week this is a permanent change going forward.

This comes after months of confusion around SmackDowns length. While Wrestling Observer recently discussed the possibility of the three-hour format sticking around, Ringside News can confirm that was never the long-term plan. SmackDown was always going back to two hours this summer, something we reported WAY back when the move to three hours was initially announced.

USA Network had tested the extra hour to help boost viewership on Friday nights, but the numbers and fan reception clearly didnt convince them to keep the change. Its also worth noting WWE wasnt even making extra money for that third hour, making the decision to drop it a no-brainer.

SmackDowns return to a two-hour show kicks off with the July 4 episode, giving fans a tighter, faster-paced broadcast just in time for the holiday weekend.

Are you glad SmackDown is going back to two hours? Or do you think WWE shouldve stuck with three? Sound off in the comments below and tell us what you think.
