If there were any lingering doubts about Damage CTRLs future, Asuka just shut them down on live TV.
During the June 23 episode of WWE RAW, Asuka made it clear the faction is done when she came face-to-face with former stablemate IYO SKY. The confrontation happened while Asuka was talking about her huge Night of Champions match against Jade Cargill to crown the new Queen of the Ring.
IYO interrupted, but Asuka wasted no time setting the record straight. Before that, IYO made it known she still wants that dream match they discussed while Damage CTRL was running wild.
It can finally be Asuka vs IYO SKY, just like what we talked about during Damage CTRL, IYO said, noting that if she wins Queen of the Ring, shell be next in line for a shot at the Womens Championship at SummerSlam.
Asuka didnt back down and wasted no time cutting to the chase. We are not in Damage CTRL anymore, Asuka fired back at IYO.
That line put an official exclamation mark on whats been happening behind the scenes for months. According to earlier reports, WWE quietly pulled the plug on Damage CTRL back in May after Dakota Kais release. The rest of the group drifted apart, with Bayley going solo, Kairi Sane and Asuka sidelined by injuries, and IYO SKY left as the only active member.
Even with Asuka and Kairi both back on TV, WWE hasnt shown any signs of reuniting the groupand Asukas words Monday night left no room for misinterpretation.
Damage CTRL had a run filled with title wins, betrayals, and plenty of chaos, but the chapter is officially closed. Now, Asukas got her eyes on the Queen of the Ring crown, while IYO SKYs future remains uncertain.
Whats your take should WWE have given Damage CTRL a proper sendoff, or was Asukas blunt message the perfect way to shut it down? Please share your thoughts and feedback in the comment section below.
