GUNTHER defeated Jey Uso on the June 9th edition of Monday Night Raw in order to become the WWE World Heavyweight Champion again. Fans have been wondering why the Ring General won in the first place, and now the reason behind his win has been revealed.
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, GUNTHER defeating Jey Uso was a decision made by Triple H, who wanted GUNTHER vs. Goldberg on the July 12 edition of Saturday Nights Main Event to be a title match.
Meltzer noted that this show takes place on the same day as All In Texas. Putting a title match on free network TV, especially one featuring Goldbergs retirement match, was seen as a way to make the event stand out.
Dave Meltzer added that the plan had always been for GUNTHER vs. Goldberg to serve as Goldbergs final match, airing on NBC rather than Netflix so that it would get the most attention possible on that big day.
As reported earlier, Goldberg will be making his return toWWE television on the June 16th edition of Monday Night Raw, where he is expected to confront WWE World Heavyweight Champion GUNTHER. Regardless, well have to see how WWE will book GUNTHER and Goldbergs feud in the coming weeks as its definitely going to lead to a huge match.
