The New York Knicks know who they want. No interviews. No second options. Theyve got eyes for one guy: Jason Kidd.

The Knicks absolutely would like to hire Jason Kidd to be their next head coach, according to ESPNs Brian Windhorst.

The question is whether the Dallas Mavericks will allow that, Windhorst explained on Get Up. It will be in the Mavericks court here. The asking of permission is a formality. If the Mavericks would agree to send Jason Kidd to the Knicks, I believe he would be with the Knicks. Theres not going to be an interview. The question is what would the Mavericks do?

Shams Charanias latest report says the Knicks havent yet asked to speak to the Mavs coach.

The Knicks have not requested permission for Mavericks coach Jason Kidd as of Tuesday night, but sources tell ESPN that the Mavericks would reject them Shams said on X.

Kidd coached Jalen Brunson during his breakout years in Dallas before he was traded to NY in 2022.

Now Brunsons the face of the franchise and you can bet the Knicks are eyeing a reunion thats more than just nostalgic, its strategic.

52-year-old Kidd reportedly resented Dallas front office, per Tim Cato, especially after being left in the dark during the controversial Luka Doncic trade.

The Knicks are in win-now mode. Fresh off their first Eastern Conference Finals appearance since 2000.

Theyre not here to rebuild, they want the guy whos led a team to the Finals, twice, and knows how to manage stars.
