WWE brought another groundbreaking event with Worlds Collide. The Kia Forum inInglewood, California, was full of fans who wanted to see this fresh combination of lucha libre and WWE Superstars.
During WWE Worlds Collide, El Hijo del Vikingo defended the AAA Mega Championship against Chad Gable. This match had fans going from start to finish, as Gable competed as himself and not the El Grande Americano character, who is in the Money in the Bank ladder match tonight.
This match went down as the main event of the show during this historic event. The contest also received a really big match feel thanks to Lilian Garcias expert Spanish ring announcing skills.
Gable and Vikingo worked seamlessly together, with each of them having an immediate answer to the others offense. Fans also blasted them with chants, mostly in support of Vikingo. The two locked up for a test of strength, and Vikingo was able to push Gable down, but the American bridged his way out of it. That led into a body scissors, which transitioned into another flawless move to complete another sequence of chain wrestling.
Eventually, a table was set up and the two fought outside the ring. The two returned to the squared circle, where the match continued. Gable took control for a while, leaving Vikingo to sell the attack in the ring. This slowed the match down a bit to Gables pace.
Gable kept control of the match, and he missed a moonsault to land on his feet. Then he caught Vikingo on the top rope and climbed up for a top rope sit-down powerbomb and a near fall. Eventually, Vikingo got back up and hit a Mexican destroyer on Gable on the apron.
The match carried on and Gable placed Vikingo on the table to nail a moonsault off the top rope. The table broke and fans were stunned by what they both brought to the table as the referee counted, but both competitors got back in before he could count to 10.
In the end, Vikingo rallied and hit a string of fast moves. Then he hit a 630 off the top rope to secure the win and retain the AAA Mega Championship.
Vikingo making his way to WWE was an especially hard blow to AEW. The company had been using him, and Tony Khan was booking him on television. Now WWE has access to the lucha star, and they are taking full advantage of that. Vikingo was also featured sitting in the crowd at ringside during recent WWE events, so hes getting a focus.
We will have to see what is next for AAA and WWEs new partnership. Worlds Collide as quite a special event, and it gave fans some very inventive booking.
