WWE fans were sent into a frenzy over the weekend after sharp-eyed followers noticed something strange: The Miz had apparently unfollowed WWE on social media. With recent roster cuts hitting names like R-Truth and Carlito, many jumped to conclusions that The Miz could be next. But according to a new report, that may not be the case at all.
Fightful Select addressed the rumors directly, reporting: Though there has been much speculation about The Mizs status after people noticed him unfollowing WWE, we have not been told whatsoever that hes been informed of his contract not being renewed.
So while the timing of his social media move is suspiciousespecially following the release of veteran namestheres no confirmation that The Miz is out. Still, fans are asking why someone whos been loyal to the brand for nearly two decades would make such a quiet digital statement.
Meanwhile, WWEs recent cuts werent random. On the June 2 episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer explained that WWE is targeting older, less used talent as part of internal restructuring. Even R-Truth and Carlito, both of whom had recent TV appearances, were seen as non-essential.
The message is clearWWE is trimming the fat, and age is playing a big role in those decisions. Older is worse than younger, obviously, Meltzer stated, citing the influx of new talent from AEW and NXT.
That context makes The Mizs social media move even more eyebrow-raising. Hes 44 years old, has been with WWE since 2004, and while hes often used for media and hosting, his in-ring presence has cooled off in recent months. Is he simply trollingor sending a message?
Whatever the case may be, fans are watching closely.
