R-Truth was still cashing in for WWE right before they showed him the door.
Just after announcing his release from the company, Fightful Select revealed that Truths Ron Cena t-shirt was among WWEs top sellers in recent weeks. That didnt stop the company from cutting ties and opting not to renew his deal.
The shirt, which spoofed his admiration for John Cena, gained popularity following their emotional match at Saturday Nights Main Event on May 24. That bout now reads like an unplanned farewell for a guy fans thought would be with WWE for life.
Truth announced his departure on June 1, posting: I just got released from WWE. I want to thank WWE for the ride, but MOSTLY I want to thank each and EVERYONE OF YOU who was along for the ride.
Whats baffling people inside the company is the timingespecially when Truth was still making money and never had heat. According to earlier reports, no one backstage had anything bad to say. In fact, one source said theyve never had a backstage source speak ill of Truthever.
So why cut loose someone still selling merch, still delivering, and still respected?
Did WWE drop the ball by releasing R-Truth while he was still moving merch? Should they have capitalized instead of cutting him? Please share your thoughts and feedback in the comment section below.
