WWEs global expansion has never looked more impressive on the surfacebut behind the lights, pyro, and packed stadiums, the constant stream of big premium live events may be overdoing it. The concern now is that the endless parade of shows could be taking the weight out of what used to feel special.
On the May 30 episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer was asked by Garrett Gonzales whether WWEs jam-packed PLE calendar is starting to hurt fan engagement. Meltzer pointed to Backlash France as a prime example of style over substance.
He then took aim at Worlds Collide, which used to serve as a unique crossover event but is now wedged between larger tentpole shows.
The bottom line, according to Meltzer, is that WWE is winning the visual gamebut that doesnt mean fans are connecting with the product on a meaningful level.
No ones questioning WWEs production values or financial momentum, but when premium events are dropping every few weeks, even the fireworks start to blur together.
Is WWE running too many major events too close together? Or is this just the new normal for global sports entertainment? Drop your thoughts in the commentswe want to hear from you.
