Battleground certainly lived up to its name on Sunday as both the NXT Womens North American Title And NXT Womens Title were on the line. Both champions heading into the event, Sol Ruca as the North American Champion and Stephanie Vaquer as the Womens Champion retained their respective titles, but neither win came easy.
To start the show was Ruca taking on the first-ever Womens North American Champion Kelani Jordan. Jordan has been showing a more herlish side to her character since she won the NA title almost one year ago. This match was an acrobats dream as both women have a background in gymnastics. Highlights included an outstanding X-Factor from Ruca to Jordan from the top rope. Jordan would go on to execute a Spanish Fly later in the match, but still couldnt keep the champ down. At one point, Zaria was ejected from ringside as she moved Ruca out of the way from a split legged moonsault. The match ended with a Sol Snatcher from half-way across the ring!
The second womens match of the night took place as match number four and proved that it could have taken the main event spot! Vauqer defended the NXT Womens Title against Jordynne Grace. Another match where it truly could have gone either way.
The Tampa crowd was electric for the women overall at this event, but Vaquer was getting some of the biggest crowd reactions of the night.
This match had everything including just enough action outside of the ring. This includes Grace dropping Vaquer on and over the announce desk and later on in the match with Vaquer putting Grace through the time keeper barricade. Vaquer would land the SVB but Grace kicked put at the last possible millisecond, shocking the crowd and Vaquer. The champ finally puts her challenger away after a pin following a Spiral Tap.
Later on in the night, Vaquer is confronted by AAAs Chik Tormenta and Dalys whom we saw earlier in the night talking to Ava. This time tho, they were arguing with Vaquer until Jacy Jayne showed up and slapped the bejesus out of the champion.
Jayne and Fallon Henley had been arguing in the background throughout the night. Henley seemed distraught in the background after Jayne laid her hand on Vaquer.
Ava and security pulled Vaquer and Jayne apart as Chik Tormenta and Dalys looked on.
