WWEs official acquisition ofMexican lucha libre promotion AAA is viewed as a massive business move thatll change the landscape in a big way. In light of their acquisition, it appears WWE is now planning to have Cody Rhodes headline their upcoming event in Mexico.
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE is planning a major event in Mexico. Multiple sources have confirmed this, and its expected to be announced soon.
Meltzer noted that WWE is pushing hard to expand its presence in Mexico, especially now that AEW has partnered with CMLL and WWE has bought AAA. This means the competition in Mexico is heating up.
The only detail known so far is that Cody Rhodes is expected to headline the event. However, WWE likely wont do a pay-per-view or TV taping there because it wouldnt be financially worth it. The Mexican government and local cities arent offering money to help bring WWE in, so those kinds of shows wouldnt make sense cost-wise.
Cody Rhodes has remained absent from WWE television after losingthe Undisputed WWE Championship to John CenaatWrestleMania 41.Therefore, well have to wait and see when hell make his return to WWE television as its very clear WWE has huge plans for him already.
