Kofi Kingston didnt hold back when a simple slip of the tongue set him off during a recent interview with Adrian Hernandez on Unlikely. The WWE Tag Team Champion immediately took issue with the interviewer referring to a WWE championship as a belt, making it clear that he takes the distinction very seriously.
This is a title sir! In all the interviews that youve done. You still call this a belt. I thought you might have leveled up. I thought before, you know, he used to be an amateur. Let me see if hes leveled up to become an intermediate, Kofi fired back. You, sir, wear a belt. You, sir, wear a belt to hold your pants up. This is a title. Anybody can wear a belt. Not anybody can have a title like this. Not anybody can be a champion.
Kofis tone grew sharper as he mentioned the importance of that distinction. Not to go off on a tangent, but you should know that by now. Youre better than this, he added, clearly frustrated by what he viewed as a rookie mistake.
The New Day member made it clear that in WWE, a championship isnt just an accessory its a symbol of being the best. And for Kofi, confusing a title with a belt is a sign of disrespect to what he and other champions have worked so hard to earn.
