Tony Schiavone is sending nothing but love and support to his longtime colleague and friend Jim Ross as the legendary AEW announcer prepares to undergo surgery for colon cancer.
Just as AEW Collision hit the airwaves on May 17, Schiavone took to Twitter to share a heartfelt message about what Ross has meant to him throughout his career.
JR is my mentor. Since we first worked together in 1987, he has taught me about being confident, about maintaining my excitement, and how to communicate my love of pro wrestling to the viewers, Schiavone tweeted. We are all praying for you, Jim! You are the greatest pro wrestling announcer ever.
Ross, who revealed his cancer diagnosis earlier this week, expressed gratitude for the support hes received from fans and colleagues alike. The 71-year-old AEW commentator last appeared at the Dynasty pay-per-view in April and is now preparing for surgery in the coming weeks.
This isnt Ross first health battle. He previously underwent radiation treatment for skin cancer in 2021 and provided a positive update on his recovery in December 2024. Now, as he faces another daunting health crisis, the wrestling world is once again rallying around the man who has been the voice of some of the biggest moments in the industrys history.
